29,366 babies were born in 2010 in Abu Dhabi

As outpatient maps showed, in 2010 the population of Abu Dhabi increased by the 29,366 people born during this year. The birth rate in the capital increased by 300 people compared to 2009 and about 46% of them were emirates.

“There has been an increase of 300 births last year compared to the previous year. The numbers are accurate since we received data from hospitals electronically,” said Dr. Farida al Husani, head of the infectious diseases department at the Abu Dhabi Department of Health.

Despite the high birth rate of the emirates, it is still much less than that of foreigners and does not exceed 20% of the total population of Abu Dhabi. The UAE government creates incentives for local citizens to encourage them to marry and increase the birth rate among the local population, as part of a long-term plan to increase the number of indigenous emirates in their own country.
