Letter from the editor

Now that the thermometer has confidently and permanently established itself above 40 ° C, everyone is only dreaming of coolness. But this does not mean that life in our wonderful city has stopped - a lot of interesting things are still happening here.

If this is your first acquaintance with Ramadan, I advise you to read our article on page 134. In it, we not only explain the meaning of the holy month, but also give some important tips on what is and is not worth doing at this time. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the time when, according to tradition, Allah passed the first lines of the holy Quran to the Prophet Muhammad.

Muslims celebrate Ramadan with prayers, fasting and good deeds - this is the time to cleanse the soul, forget about their own weaknesses and draw closer to God. Refusing food reminds believers of the suffering of the poor and emphasizes the importance of charity. Fasting lasts 30 days - at this time during the daytime you can not eat food or even drink water. The conversation, called Iftar, begins immediately after sunset. In many restaurants it is customary to set a table with refreshments in special festively decorated tents, where traditional dinners are served. We have collected the most beautiful and obligatory tents for you in our Gourmet section on page 192. Do not miss!

In general, the month of Ramadan is a great time to get to know the local culture and customs. After all, people at this time gather at the same table more often than ever, wear bright caftans, decorated abayas and luxurious clothes with unique patterns - different for each special occasion and mood.

How in the holy month to look modest, but still stylish? The key, it seems to me, is the ability to combine wardrobe elements and choose the right accessories. Put on, for example, an abaya with wide sleeves, decorated with delicate embroidery, over a white dress - the image will be graceful and stylish. Today, fashion designers from the Middle East decorate abayas not only with rhinestones, sequins and handmade embroidery, but also with actual prints and inserts. Trying to find a balance between traditions and fashion trends, they create beautiful creations that meet the latest standards of fashion. If you look into our Fashion section on page 88, you will be surprised how unusual, bold and elegant the present abayas can be.

And do not forget to go to the Night Market, which opens during Ramadan - it will work in the World Trade Center of Dubai from July 17 to July 27. 10 days of great shopping await you - clothes and shoes, food, cosmetics and jewelry - as well as an incredible variety of entertainment.
