Katie, this time the photo shoot for Katy Grand loves Hogan became much more frank. What is the reason for this?
Katie: As soon as we decided to include a leather jacket in the collection, I felt that the styling should look easy and relaxed - that's why I opted for bikinis and combinations, I wanted to give the collection an effect of weightlessness and transparency. The jacket is inspired by a 70-foot “jacket” that belonged to my father, and so that it does not look completely retro, I replaced the zipper with buttons. It seems to me that girls like it when jackets are either oversize and resemble men's, or small and tight-fitting - so I made them in two styles.
Tell us how the shooting went.
Katie: They were at Milk Studios in New York, we listened to Jackson Scott's That That Awful Sound, and then Ar Kelly. I was a little nervous, because in one room two mega-stars of the industry - top models Stephanie Seymour and Linda Evangelista - were doing makeup at the same time. But it turned out that they were friends and were glad to see each other! Stephanie, by the way, brought her playlist, which also included songs by Robin Thicke and Eminem.
You are responsible not only for the product, but also for its styling. Does it somehow affect your work?
Katie: You have no idea how it exhausts! We have to do a lot of work, and this season we even shot three days instead of one, as the previous time. I am so immersed in the creation of the product that I am fully involved in the photo shoot. In addition, on the set I meet with such supermodels! Sometimes I don’t even believe that they are dressed in my clothes and use my accessories. I was very lucky, because it is a real honor for me!
Was it easy to invite such fashion stars to shoot?
Katie: Probably easy. But I always get a shock when they say yes. I'm crazy glad about this opportunity.
Who else would you like to work with?
Katie: The only girl I haven’t worked with to this day is model Natalya Siodak. She came to the casting show Marc Jacobs, and it seemed to me that she strongly resembles my girlfriend, model Victoria Young. And she has a crunch between her teeth, like mine ... In a word, I was subdued.
Model Edie Campbell has been filming Hogan campaigns for three consecutive seasons. What is so special about her?
Katie: At the very beginning, when we shot Edie, she had long hair with thick bangs, the second time she cut her hair short and dyed her hair for the brunette in American Vogue, made by the fashion photographer Guido. Finally, now her hair has grown a little, and their color is returning to its original color. And again, she looks completely different, she is a real chameleon, and that is why - a great model! I like working with her. She also has a tan that fits the image of Katy Grand loves Hogan ... Can I share something with you? It’s very inconvenient to talk about yourself in the third person!
This time, for the first time, you included clothes in addition to shoes and bags to the collection. Why?
Katie: From the very beginning, Andrea and Diego (the Della Valle brothers are the founders of the company. - Note. Ed.) Asked me to include a leather jacket in the collection, but it seemed to me that there were a lot of great jackets on the market, and it's not so easy to come up with something really original. However, I think that enough time has passed so that the nature of our collection is fully revealed, so I had a desire to develop clothes as well. I looked through my archives and found in them a wonderful jacket of my father. It seemed to me that this is exactly what you need.
How free are you to change the classic Hogan style?
Katie: They give me complete creative freedom, but I am always very careful and respect the brand’s designer code - they have a great history and heritage, and I always take this into account. I was lucky, because Hogan are professionals in creating shoes, and not every shoe factory can boast of this.
What elements of the collection are absolutely original, but not recycled from the Hogan archives?
Katie: High heel shoes are brand new. I was asked to include in the collection something that I would put on myself, and since I am constantly in high heels, I decided to work on classic boats. I hope I got shoes with a perfect heel of 10 cm. Then I added the classic Hogan sneakers and the Attractive and 194 models a thick, rough sole. All bags, small leather accessories and clothes are also not from the archives.
What makes Hogan different from other brands?
Cathy: Creating shoes based on the prototype is a high-tech process, and only a few factories have this know-how. What makes Hogan unique? Techniques and philosophy, thanks to which the brand creates both fashionable and sports shoes. It was not easy to create perfect boats, but in the end we got it!
