Dubai authorities closed about 5 thousand accounts in social networks

Dubai authorities have closed about 5 thousand accounts on social networks and 30 sites.

The Department of Economic Development of Dubai has closed about 5 thousand accounts on social networks and 30 sites distributing counterfeit products. This step was implemented as part of a plan to combat the proliferation of counterfeit goods and aimed at eliminating unscrupulous merchants in the network.

According to representatives of the Department of Economic Development, the event is aimed at protecting brands and maintaining the rating of Dubai as a leading shopping center.

“Today, social media accounts are used by many fraudsters selling counterfeit goods,” said Ibrahim Behzad, head of the Intellectual Property Rights Division at the Department of Economic Development.

Mr. Behzad said his team will continue to curb the abuse of modern technology and protect the business reputation of Dubai.

"Our employees work around the clock, track accounts on social networks and on electronic platforms used to promote and sell counterfeit goods," the head said.

Mr. Behzad also noted that among counterfeit goods sold online, you can find anything: bags, perfumes, watches, cosmetics, etc. The Department of Economic Development also closed shops and warehouses selling counterfeit goods from the counter.

Ibrahim Behzad called on all consumers to refrain from buying fake goods. If you accidentally purchased a fake product, or you become aware of the distribution locations of such a product, call the Consumer Rights Support Center at 600545555, or write to the service’s accounts on Instagram and Twitter.

So, in 2017 in Dubai, fake products worth 1 billion dirhams (270 million US dollars) were seized.
