Dubai opens seven new metro stations

On April 30 of this year, seven new metro line stations were opened in Dubai, including Emirates, Airport Terminal 1, Al Karama, Emirates Towers, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Marina and Ibn Battuta.

In normal mode, these stations operate from Saturday to Thursday from 6 am to 11 pm. According to Mattar Al-Thayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), during peak hours, seven new metro stations will serve 20 trains that will arrive every six minutes, and during part-time metro lines - 15 trains with an interval of eight minutes.

In addition, the RTA prepared 28 additional buses that transport metro passengers, arriving at stops near major stations every 13-20 minutes, depending on the route.

From the start of the Dubai Metro, which was opened in September 2009, until March 31 of this year, 13.68 million passengers used its services, and the number of passengers served during the day has reached 80 thousand people. RTA experts expect that this year the number of passengers using the metro services will reach 35 million people, and in 2011 it will increase even more due to the opening of its green line.

The “red” metro line is expected to be fully operational only by October of this year.
