Abu Dhabi prepares to welcome Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has announced the start of construction of the Destination Village area in Abu Dhabi's Corniche area, which will be part of the Volvo Ocean Race around the world sailing regatta.

The Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 regatta starts in October this year from the Spanish Alicante, and its end is scheduled for next summer in the Irish city of Galway. The arrival of the race participants, as well as thousands of its fans in the UAE capital is expected in January 2012.

The new coastal area of ​​Destination Village will be open for free visits daily from December 30, 2011 to January 14, 2012. Over the past two weeks, Destination Village is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors. For guests there will be organized exhibitions, show programs and other entertainment events with a marine theme. Hotel accommodation and restaurant services are also provided.

Once the regatta leaves Abu Dhabi, Destination Village will serve as a marina in the Corniche area.
