Antoine Masoni, perfumer
By order of the CH Carolina Herrera fashion house, perfumer Antoine Masoni, grandson of the famous Albert Camus, was developing new men's perfumes. He was born in Grasse to a family of perfumers, but in his childhood and youth did not even think about a career "nose." At first he studied law, and as a fan of Kubrick and Scorsese films, he planned to become a photographer or to connect his life with cinema. However, the delicate taste, love for everything romantic did their job, and Antoine gave the world the most elegant men's and most attractive women's fragrances under the brands Armani, Burberry, Gucci and Paul Smith. Now he had to take a fresh look at modern sports men, already under the flag of CH.
Antoine, what kind of sport has become the main source of inspiration when working on CH Men Sport?
For me, the whole idea was not directly related to a particular sport. I was more inspired by Carolina Herreira herself and the spirit reigning in the company of CH. When I thought about the concept of a new perfume, I imagined ordinary modern young people, their friendships and meetings on the beach. Therefore, CH Men Sport is more a casual lifestyle, a bit of fashion and summer mood.
Perfumes are always a memory, their smell can evoke memories of the best moments of life. However, how can you put your mood and lifestyle in a glass bottle?
Carolina Herreira Jr played an important role in creating this fragrance. She talked about the unique smell of a wet tree that dries on the beach under the scorching sun. It helped me with a selection of basic notes, to which I added some spicy caraway seeds, chords of warm sandalwood and musk, a little oak moss, pink pepper and green herbal extracts. The resulting composition began to resemble the smell of the bottom of a boat salted with sea water - a little tart, moderately fresh and very masculine.
Strange, but you used woody notes in the "top" of the pyramid, and not in the base, why?
I don’t know what other perfumers use in the “top”, but for me it is important that the character of spirits is revealed from the very first notes. Hence the tree from which it all began. CH Men Sport have their own recognizable image.
To which man are these perfumes addressed?
This is a young aristocrat, similar to the young Alain Delon. Elegance and classic beauty are the main features of the man for whom this perfume was created. Despite the fact that we are talking about modern perfumes, it’s hard for me to imagine someone who is living the “face” of CH Men Sport. Maybe someone from the Kennedy family would come up?
What do you personally like about your new creation?
I am very pleased with the result. And yet, this is always a big question - will your work delight someone, will it change someone's life for the better? I always try to notice the best human feelings and emotions, then to turn them into something tangible. It is very interesting and pleasant for me! What is the main secret of CH Men Sport?
When you yourself smell them, you will understand! The main difference, perhaps, is the abundance of woody notes in "sports" spirits. They are not at all transparent and very comfortable, enveloping. And also - energetic, fresh and filled with happiness!
Why does the bottle have such a strange "outfit"?
Because we decided to take the idea of old sailboats and modern yachts as a basis, putting an ordinary glass bottle in a kind of red “jacket” with a white stripe. The same elements are widely used in the spring-summer collection of clothing and accessories of CH Carolina Herrera. In addition, red is the brand color of the brand, which means buyers from afar will know what it is.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to read, walk, travel. I love people, which is important in the modern world. I love everything new and unusual! Therefore, I dream to visit South America.
Being in Dubai, where first of all would you like to be?
First - at the gold market, and then go to the desert. Very simple.
Is CH Men Sport the best of your creations?
So far, yes, but in the near future I intend to present my new works to the world.
