Jean-Christophe, what in your life prompted you to become a perfumer?

To be honest, the first impetus for choosing a profession, perhaps, was the perfume of my mother - the legendary “Shalimar” from the House of Guerlain. The second shock was the men's “aromatic” perfume “Joop!”. It was then that I decided that I wanted to become a perfumer and try to create something legendary.

How do you manage to capture the ideas of customers and bring them to life?

A perfumer is a creator, just like an artist or composer. If the composer is talented, today he can compose a jazz melody, and tomorrow switch to the blues or classical. But at the same time, in all melodies his individuality and style will be felt. The same can be said of the perfumer.

Then, what makes your new creation unique, and with what melody would you compare “Chopard Enchanted”?

The secret of this fragrance is in special notes of patchouli combined with cashmeran and sun-dried jasmine. The combination is unique in nature. The last element of the perfume pyramid is plum. We added it in order to give the aroma of magic. Magic and brilliance are always associated with the brand image: Chopard diamonds are real magic. We tried to convey the magical essence of the new fragrance in the bottle design - the moving crystals in the cap ring create a special mood.

Describe the image of the woman who you associate with this fragrance?

“Chopard Enchanted” is addressed to the princess who lives in every woman. The source of our inspiration was the dream of all the women of the world about fabulous countries and miracles. Therefore, these spirits are not addressed to any particular age: we are all young in soul, and our dreams should come true sometime. This perfume arouses dreams.

How would you describe the essence of “Chopard Enchanted” in three words?

Magical, charming, sparkling.

What were your first impressions when you were offered to become the “nose” of Chopard and create a new perfume?

Pride! Each of the perfumers had to present the company their vision of the future fragrance. We went through a series of qualifying rounds to win Chopard recognition and qualify for the fragrance. As a result, the strongest won! Hope it's me (laughs). But seriously, when they chose me as their “nose”, I was very grateful to Chopard and Coty Inc. for trust and opportunity.

What can inspire you to create a new fragrance? How do you spend time outside the lab?

Everything inspires me to be creative. It can be a mixture of spices in the kitchen or a combination of floral aromas while walking in the park. It could be a tune. Or a special combination of words that can best convey my thoughts to the interlocutor. Telling stories is what I truly love to do in my free time.

Is there a flavor of your dreams, one that you have yet to create?

This is a very difficult question. I have a lot of ideas. My dream is to discover aromatic combinations that no one has ever used. You, of course, will learn about them when I create my next "recognizable" perfume (laughs).
