The new project "Dreams of the sea: the marine history of Dubai" was launched in the UAE

Dubai port operator DP World has launched a new interactive project, Dreams of the Sea, which will tell present and future generations about the development of maritime trade in the emirate. Currently, the website www.dreamsofthesea.ae has already begun to function, where everyone can get acquainted with the photo archive and life stories of pearl hunters, fishermen and company executives who are somehow connected with the marine business.

In addition, a temporary exposition has opened in the historic quarter of Dubai's Shindag, on the shores of Dubai Bay, which displays historical photographs, including the construction of Port Rashid and Jebel Ali harbors, and ship samples. Each visitor can record his own video about what role the sea played in his life. The exhibition will run until January 27th. It is also expected that in the near future the book "Dreams of the Sea" in English and Arabic will be released.

It is worth noting that the development of the port in the area of Dubai Bay began in 1822, as was first recorded in historical sources. At that time, the population of the district was 1,200 people, and 90 boats came to the marina for catching pearls and fish. By 1908, the number of ships increased to 400, and the population was 10 thousand people. Today, Dubai Bay receives 25 thousand ships a year, and the population of the emirate has exceeded 2 million people.
