Famous cakes

Layered wedding cakes made their name only at the end of the 19th century. As usual, they were first tasted by persons of royal blood.

For example, the famous cake of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip consisted of four tiers, and the confectioners of McVitie and Price Ltd decorated the masterpiece with scenes from the real life of the bride and groom.

This show with a cake was arranged in Monaco in 1956: Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III surprised the guests with a magnificent cake with a cage hidden inside, in which enterprising confectioners placed a couple of live pigeons. When cutting the cake, the birds were very effectively released into the wild, and the ritual went down in the history of high wedding art.
