In four years, Dubai will become a city of pedestrians

The Dubai Master Plan until 2020 involves stimulating walking and cycling around the city.

In order to reduce the use of personal vehicles and taxis in Dubai, following the concept of a compact city, create clusters of commercial and residential buildings in the immediate vicinity of metro stations. After 4 years, these efforts should lead to an increase in the quality of life and achieve high results in the ranking of cities with high pedestrian accessibility, which characterizes the degree of fitness of the urban environment for pedestrians.

All developers working in Dubai, in the process of approving a new project, are now required to provide a report on the study of how their project will affect the loading of public transport and the surrounding streets, as well as what planning measures they have taken to increase the pedestrian accessibility of the project.

The report must be certified by the Dubai Road Transport Committee. In January 2016, there were 2.4 million inhabitants in Dubai, and the annual population growth was 5%. According to forecasts, by 2020, from 2.8 to 3.4 million people will live in Dubai.
