Years to a hundred

Celebrating its centenary this year, BMW introduced the Vision Next 100 motorcycle concept in Los Angeles. The Das Motorrad with a triangular carbon frame and electric motor is devoid of such traditional details as a steering fork, windshield and rear-view mirrors. They are successfully replaced by the active Flexframe, which bends in corners, and smart glasses, which project instrument displays on the retina and allow you to see 360 degrees around.

“Our prototype demonstrates the company's vision of how motorcycles of the future will look and embodies the analogue experience in the digital world,” said Edgar Heinrich, chief designer of BMW Motorrad, to the concept’s premier.

Gyroscopes built into the frame automatically adjust the balance, the Digital Companion on-board computer monitors the headlights and side lights, if necessary, activates active safety systems. There is even climate control: a specially developed BMW “jacket” is equipped with heating and cooling systems. The collar of this jacket when it reaches 100 km / h is automatically inflated like a swimmer’s vest, thus playing the role of another security system. The jacket also monitors the driver’s heart rate, and when it reaches a dangerous roll, it starts to vibrate, “advising” to change the position of the body in the saddle.

The triangle, which is clearly visible in the silhouette of the concept, is a tribute to the first motorcycle of the brand, model R32 1923 release. The sketch of the Vision Next 100 motorcycle was drawn by Yevgeny Zhukov, a graduate of the Stroganov Moscow Art Institute, who has been working in the BMW Motorrad design studio for many years.
