Louvre Abu Dhabi announces four new exhibitions

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced four new exhibitions in the upcoming season.

In the upcoming season, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is waiting for a “bold and extensive exhibition program,” said museum director Manuel Rabat.

Under the theme “Changing Societies”, the museum will tell about key changes, from the meeting of the Islamic East and the Christian West in the Middle Ages to artistic practices in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.

Another exhibition will tell about the development of luxury and showcase the achievements of Christian Dior, Chanel, Cartier and Hermes fashion houses. Both exhibitions will be created in conjunction with partner museums from France and will be accompanied by live performances, film screenings and family events.

The museum will devote September to the period of the beginning of the 20th century, when artists from all over Europe flocked to Paris to learn new methods and techniques for creating painting. The exhibition "Rendezvous in Paris", organized jointly with the Pompidou Center in Paris, will demonstrate the work of Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Amedeo Modigliani. The exhibition will be accompanied by the dance program of the outstanding contemporary choreographer Elizabeth Streb. The exhibition runs from September 18 to December 7.

October 30, the museum will open the most anticipated exhibition "10 thousand years of luxury", which will demonstrate the achievements of fashion, jewelry and design. For the first time in the region, luxury will be considered in the context of the development of society. The exhibition will be accompanied by performances and film screenings under the supervision of the Dubai artist Hind Mezaina. The exhibition runs until February 18th.

In the spring, from February 19 to May 30, 2020, the museum embarks on a historic journey into the era of the Crusaders: together with the National Museum of the Middle Ages (Cluny Mansion), an exhibition "The Art of Chivalry" between East and West will be organized, where will be told about the chivalrous code and the art of riding, including in the Arab world.

From April 15 to July 11, 2020, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will return to the most important art of the 20th century - cinema, as well as new media - drawing, drawing and sculpture of the 1900s. The exhibition "Charlie Chaplin: where art meets cinema", in particular, will talk about the connection between the brilliant comedian and such trends in art as constructivism, surrealism and Dadaism, as well as the cataclysms of world wars.
