The first icebergs from Antarctica can deliver to the shores of the UAE this year

The company, which plans to deliver icebergs to the shores of the United Arab Emirates, plans to conduct a test this year.

The UAE National Advisor Bureau Limited, behind the plans to transport icebergs from Antarctica to the coast of the Emirate of Fujairah, plans to conduct its first trials this year. For tests laid $ US 80 million.

Recall the chronology of the project. In May 2017, plans to transport icebergs became known for the first time. The main objectives of the project are the collection of clean drinking water and the impact on the climate in the region: it was assumed that icebergs could bring more rainfall with them.

Later that month, the UAE Ministry of Energy denied all reports of Abdullah Mohammed Suleiman Al Shehi, Managing Director of National Advisor Bureau Limited, and the very possibility of transporting icebergs to the UAE. The ministry called the reports nothing more than "rumors."

However, Al Shehi did not abandon his project and continued to discuss it in a public field. Last year, he announced the receipt of patents and the formation of a scientific committee to deal with this issue.

In an interview with a Middle Eastern television show this month, Abdullah Al Shehi said the first icebergs would be delivered to Cape Town (South Africa) or Perth (Australia) to collect water later this year. According to him, it is cheaper than desalinating water, since desalination plants "require a huge investment."
