A new mega-project is launched on the beaches of the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates launched an environmental mega-project in the country's coastal zones.

The UAE Ministry of Climate and Environment Change is launching a new phase of a mega-project to install protective barriers made of natural stone in coastal areas throughout the country.

It is assumed that these barriers will restore the natural habitats and breeding of marine flora and fauna, especially corals, and thereby preserve and strengthen the country's aquatic biodiversity. Barriers will also help protect the UAE coastline from storms.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed al-Zeyudi, Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, and Salah al-Ricey, responsible for biodiversity at the Ministry, attended the launch of the pilot phase of the project on the coast of the Umm al-Quwain Emirate.

Al-Ricey said: “This project is consistent with the Ministry’s strategy to conserve local biodiversity by restoring natural habitats and creating artificial habitats for breeding and prosperity of species.”
