Futuristic passenger capsules will start flying over Dubai's roads

A new high-tech overhead public transport will appear in Dubai.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with skyTran, a company specializing in the development of unmanned passenger transport systems. This was announced on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

“This will improve the integration of public transport systems, which in turn will accelerate economic growth, attract more investment and improve living standards in Dubai,” said Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes, director general of the RTA Railway Agency.

The skyTran system consists of passenger capsules that travel over the road at an average speed of 160 kilometers per hour. In addition to speed, the unmanned system ensures the absence of harmful emissions, noise and traffic jams. The technology is based on the use of magnetic suspensions, which allow the capsules to move on rails.
