Etihad Airways Launches Next Generation Economy Class

The new economy class Etihad Airways will take into account the individual preferences of each guest.

Dubai, UAE. Etihad Airways has launched an economy-class transformation program by updating the cabin of 23 narrow-body Airbus 320 and 321. The cabin re-equipment program, which includes a new personalized wireless entertainment system available on smartphones and tablets, is scheduled for completion this August. The airline is also introducing a new and improved concept of free catering on board economy-class flights on all flights as part of a broader on-board catering service improvement program.

At the Arabian Travel Market international tourism exhibition, Etihad presented its new developments, as well as the new Go Your Own Way advertising campaign, using the famous melody of the legendary band Fleetwood Mac as a soundtrack. As part of the 'Choose Well' airline brand platform, the campaign will highlight Etihad's intentions to provide guests with more options for independent choice, taking into account the individual preferences of each guest.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, said: “We offer our guests more choice on their own through digital transformation on board, improved choices, re-equipped showrooms and an updated product. Etihad adapts to meet the individual needs of all travelers, providing them with exactly what necessary for a comfortable flight. This gives not only more choice and personalization, but also ensures that we continue to provide unrivaled, commercially reasonable and reliable service. "

Relax the way you feel comfortable: full modification of the cabin of narrow-body aircraft. Etihad is consistently updating the economy class lounges of narrow-body aircraft of Airbuses 320 and 321. Cabin upgrades are carried out for short-haul flights to 38 Etihad destinations within a five-hour flight from Abu Dhabi. Ergonomic chairs of the British brand Acro, the world innovative leader in the manufacture of aircraft seats, are in the modern updated salons of the airline. The next generation chairs provide a comfortable extended space for the knees, have a “smart design” taking into account the placement of the guest’s mobile devices and USB ports for quick charging, as well as adjustable holders for the phone and tablet.

The first phase of economy-class upgrades began in 2017 with the introduction of new seat options, such as Free Neighboring Seat, Economy Space and Preferred Seat on wide-body aircraft.

Onboard Wireless Entertainment System (Airbus 320 / 321): Use it as you like. If you fly on a narrow-body aircraft, you can get more than 300 hours of entertainment directly from your mobile devices via your browser using the Etihad Panasonic eXW on-board system. A more extensive entertainment program, including a wide selection of Hollywood blockbusters, international films and the best television programs such as for example, HBO and Universal television shows are available in the new E-BOX STREAM app, which can be downloaded before flying. The on-board entertainment system, accessible from the screens on the front seats, will remain in economy class cabins on wide-body Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

Dine the way you like: new food concept on board economy class. Etihad has launched an updated concept of free meals on board on all flights. On flights lasting more than three hours, the main dish is now larger, cooked in a modern bistro style, higher in quality, focused on fresh seasonal ingredients and regional cuisine. The plate has a new triangular shape that reflects the cultural heritage of Abu Dhabi and is made from recyclable materials. New cutlery is 85 percent lighter, thereby reducing aircraft weight and fuel consumption, respectively. Each year, the airline will dispose of 27 million plastic caps and other containers, supporting the movement to protect the environment and reduce the use of disposable plastic dishes by 80 percent in 2022.

As part of the new food concept, guests will be offered delicious desserts that will be served separately with coffee and tea, reducing the number of dishes on the tray during serving the main course. In addition to this, the menu of snacks and drinks 'Sweet or Salty', which can be purchased on board, is greatly expanded: tapas, hot dishes, high-quality sweet and savory snacks. Children will also have an excellent choice. An expanded assortment will be presented by leading brands such as Bateel, Starbucks, Thorntons, Cawston Press, Heavenly, Perrier and Barebells. Etihad will also offer new blankets, pillows, headrests to create even more comfort and atmosphere on board.
