In the United Arab Emirates discovered artifacts 2 thousand years old

On the territory of the United Arab Emirates, artifacts are again discovered, whose age exceeds two millennia.

During new archaeological excavations in the emirate of Umm al-Quwain in the UAE, many antiquities more than two thousand years old were discovered.

More than a dozen graves, jewelry, coins and other artifacts dating back to the first century AD were discovered during new excavations in the emirate of Umm Al-Quwain in the town of Ed-Dur not on the shore of the shallow Khor Al Beidah Bay.

Excavations in the territory of Ed-Dur, which is translated from Arabic, can mean "house, dwelling", began in the 1970s. This place was discovered by an Iraqi archaeologist in 1973, and a year later excavations began, as a result of which the remains of stone houses and ancient coins were discovered. In the period from 1989 to 1995, during further excavations, the temple of the God of the Sun, decorated with Aramaic inscriptions, was discovered. In 2015, more than 500 graves were discovered near the ruins of stone houses and a temple, as well as other items, including pre-Islamic religious relics, weapons, jewelry and ceramics.

According to the Department of Tourism and Antiquities of the Emirate, excavations in Ed-Dour by local archaeologists have been carried out since 2009 and have not stopped for a year since. This season, on the territory of one of the largest archaeological sites in the UAE, during additional archaeological surveys, 15 graves were discovered, the remains of ancient buildings, bronze figurines, pottery and jewelry.

"The inhabitants of the region at that time believed that earthly life and life after death were one, so all the graves were located in close proximity to residential buildings. Almost all the graves are oriented along the line to the north-east, but there is one located on the line north-west." , commented on the found Aliya Al-Ghafli, Director General of the Department of Tourism and Antiquities of the Emirate of Umm Al-Quwain.

Aliya Al-Ghafli also reported that earlier coins were found here, similar to those that were in use in the 4th century BC. during the reign of Emperor Alexander the Great. Such coins were widely distributed in the east of the Arabian Peninsula at the beginning of our era. As previously reported by the state news agency Wam, a stone form found in Sharjah used to make coins several years ago suggests that some of the coins found were minted directly in the territory now owned by the United Arab Emirates.
