UAE Prime Minister meets with candidates for cosmonauts

The Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates met with two candidates for astronauts.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, received two national candidates for cosmonauts at his residence. A post about this event was posted on the personal page of Sheikh Mohammed on Twitter.

Sheikh Mohammed wished astronauts good luck in the upcoming space travel and, in particular, said - “Our country is investing in science, education and youth training. We hope that your flight will lay a solid and stable foundation for the development of science, knowledge and social development.” In addition to Sheikh Muhammad and the astronauts themselves, the meeting was attended by the Crown Prince of Dubai and Sheikh Maktum bin Muhammad - Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Recall that Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Neyyadi were selected from 4 thousand applicants and got a chance to become the first astronauts from the United Arab Emirates. Only one of the selected astronauts will fly into space - the choice will be made in May of this year, and already on September 23, 2019, one of the emirate cosmonauts will go to the ISS and spend 8 days in orbit.

Both candidates for cosmonauts trained in Russia - they were prepared for flight in zero gravity at the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yu. A. Gagarin in Star City in the suburbs, and they also received training on survival in the conditions of the Russian winter in the event of an emergency emergency landing.
