New bike lanes open in Dubai

Three new bike lanes with a total length of 32 km will open in Dubai.

Dubai, UAE. In early February, three new bike lanes with a total length of 32 km open in Dubai. Bike paths will appear in the residential areas of Mushrif, Mirdif and Al Khawaneej.

The project also includes the construction of two pedestrian bridges with bike paths through Al Khawaneej and Academic City streets. The total project cost is estimated at 67 million dirhams (US $ 18.3 million).

It should be noted that the Dubai Committee on Roads and Transport chose these areas for the construction of bicycle routes due to their densely populated, transport safety and convenient location. The tracks are built with safety standards in mind.

It is also worth recalling that in recent years, 218 km of bicycle paths have been built in Dubai, including tracks: Seih Assalam / Bab Al Shams / Al Qudra Street, Dubai Water Canal, Jumeirah Street, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street and Al Mankhool Street.

In the next three years, the cycle network will grow by another 234 km. Trails will cover areas such as Al Warqaa, Jumeirah Beach, Nad Al Sheba, Expo 2020, Downtown, Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Al Karama, Oud Metha, Hor Al Anz, Al Qusais and Al Barsha. Thus, the length of the bicycle network in Dubai in 2021 will be 500 km.
