Abu Dhabi Department of Health will stop issuing licenses to medical facilities

The Abu Dhabi Department of Health will no longer issue new licenses to general health clinics from January 1.

Representatives of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health announced their intention to review the procedure for issuing licenses for the provision of medical services. The decision will not affect licenses for clinics located at construction sites, hotels, schools, sports and public clubs, as well as corporate hospitals.

The department said that the decision does not apply to licenses for clinics located at construction sites, in hotels, schools, sports and public clubs, as well as corporate medical institutions.

This step is part of a strategy that will be implemented in the new year and aims to improve access to quality health care. The department will only issue licenses for medical facilities that meet new standards.

“The recently adopted standard of primary care is patient-oriented,” said Mohammed Al-Khameli, Acting Deputy Head of Department.

"This measure will increase the level of the healthcare system in the emirate in such areas as disease prevention, medical care, patient counseling, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases."

Abu Dhabi hospitals and medical facilities planning to provide primary health care services must comply with the new standards adopted by the department, all such organizations must apply for a license to provide medical care services.
