Dubai Utility Hires Robot Employees

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has appointed robots to serve customers.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the recruitment of five robots as personnel to serve customers.

Each robot will be assigned an employee number. Number one is 99000099. The DEWA statement said that the management will take all necessary measures to improve work efficiency in accordance with the highest international standards.

This is the first integrated “smart” customer happiness center in Dubai that relies on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, as well as providing smart and innovative customer services.

Saeed Mohammed Al Thayer, DEWA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We see innovation as the cornerstone of continuous improvement to enhance DEWA's competitiveness in all areas.”

"We are constantly making efforts to keep up with the fourth industrial revolution, and use innovative technologies in various fields, develop AI, robotics, IoT, 3D printing and support the Dubai 10X initiative to advance Dubai into the future, making it ahead of 10 years, other cities of the world thanks to state innovation and strengthening Dubai’s leadership in shaping the future, "he said.

In addition to robotic employees, Rammas, a virtual employee, already serves at DEWA. It is implemented by the functionality of a smart application, website and Amazon Alexa system. DEWA was the first government organization to launch a chatbot in Arabic and English. Rammas can answer an unlimited number of requests in record time.
