How to pre-register drugs imported into the UAE?

For pre-registration of drugs imported into the UAE, you can register on the website of the Ministry of Health of the UAE and obtain permission online.

Officially, this procedure is called "Issuing permission to import medicines for personal use."

The procedure itself is quite simple and takes place online - you need to register on the site, and then through a special form send an application for permission by attaching the necessary documents to it. Within 24 hours from the moment of filing, the request will be considered and, if approved, the permit will be sent to the applicant by e-mail.

The whole procedure is described in detail on the website of the Ministry of Health of the UAE using the link given above (in English). On the same page there is a link to a document with a list of drugs restricted for import, which can be obtained permission, and drugs that cannot be imported categorically (marked as prohibited in the list). In addition, there is a link to detailed instructions for filling out the request - also in English.

List of documents attached to the application:

  • Prescription issued by your healthcare provider translated into English or Arabic.
  • A certified medical report translated into English or Arabic.
  • Copy of UAE resident ID card (Emirates ID) or passport.

The quantity of medicines restricted for import should not exceed the monthly consumption rate.

IMPORTANT: The UAE Ministry of Health specifically emphasizes that pre-registration is NOT a mandatory procedure. Presenting drugs restricted for import and getting approval for their import into the UAE can still be done directly at the airport.
