Can I import drugs to the United Arab Emirates?

Yes, all individuals (tourists or residents) arriving in the United Arab Emirates can carry drugs that are not prohibited to be imported into the UAE, as well as drugs whose import is restricted.

And now in more detail:

First of all, there are drugs for the import of which into the UAE does not require special permission. They can be transported to the country without any problems, provided that their number does not exceed a three-month consumption rate.

Secondly, there are medicines that a tourist can bring to the UAE only if he presents them at the airport during the inspection, or in advance receives special permission on the website of the Ministry of Health of the UAE. These drugs include certain drugs, psychotropic drugs, and specially controlled medicines. Read more about online drug registration here.

Thirdly, there are drugs whose import into the UAE is strictly prohibited for personal use!

A list of restricted and banned drugs is available on the UAE Ministry of Health website. Drugs that are completely banned from importation are marked on this list as "Prohibited".

Drugs restricted to import must be presented to the customs inspector when crossing the UAE border. To speed up the border crossing procedure, you can get permission to import such drugs in advance. Details are written here.
