Dubai Taxi Park replenished over 500 hybrid cars

Dubai's taxi service has over 1,000 hybrid cars since the delivery of the new Camry.

Al Futtaim, a Toyota distributor in the UAE, announced the delivery of 554 vehicles to the Dubai Highway and Transportation Authority on Sunday. Thus, the taxi fleet of hybrid cars was almost doubled. Now, over 1,000 such vehicles are in the service of Dubai Taxi Corporation.

“We are committed to providing greener solutions that support the green initiatives of the UAE government,” said Yousef Ali Ali, Executive Director of Dubai Taxi.

Al Futtaim is the supplier of all hybrid cars in Dubai's taxi fleet and more than 85 percent gasoline, said Saud Abbashi, Toyota's managing director at Al Futtaim Motors.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to an electric motor. Despite the fact that these cars are "electric hybrids", they cannot be charged at any station for electric vehicles in the emirate.
