Arabian Chronicles of Cartier House

During the celebration of the “Month of France” in the UAE, the popular Cartier jewelry house presented historical photographs of Jacques Cartier during his travels in the Persian Gulf region. The presentation of these important historical documents took place at the Arabies Hereuses exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of photography on the Arabian Peninsula, which was held at the Sheikh Zayed University, which was honored by the presence of the UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahayyan.

Jacques Cartier, one of Alfred Cartier's three sons, first traveled to London to strengthen Cartier's mutually beneficial relationship with members of the British royal family. In 1911, he went by ship to the Gulf countries in search of the precious and rare pearls, which the Middle East was famous for. During his research, Jacques Cartier visited the Sultanate of Oman and the island of Bahrain, where he met many local pearl merchants. He managed to build strong business relations with the sheikhs, who later delivered to the workshops of the Cartier House, both in London and in Paris, the exceptional collections of pearls and precious stones used to create stunning jewelry. The archived documents of Cartier preserved photographs of Jacques Cartier himself, which he took while traveling around the Gulf countries. It was they who were presented by the jewelry brand as part of the exhibition. Taking the opportunity, the luxurious French company also, in order to better acquaint students with the Cartier House, presented its jewelry and watch collections.
