Water quality on beaches in the UAE will be guaranteed by Blue Flags

In 2009, the UAE Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) announced its entry into the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) in order to become the national coordinator of the Blue Flag Program (Blue Flag) in the country.

The Blue Flag is an environmental label that is issued on a voluntary basis to beaches and marinas that comply with all international sanitary requirements. The main goal of this program is the sustainable development of beaches and moorings in accordance with strict criteria for water quality, advocacy in the field of environmental protection, environmental management, safety and other services.

"The quality of water on the beaches is a matter of interest to many residents of the country, as well as tourists coming to the United Arab Emirates. With blue flags on the beaches, people can be completely calm about the quality and safety of water to swim with their children," - says Lisa Peri, EWS Environmental Program Director. - "In order for the beach to be able to get the Blue Flag, its owners need to make sure that it fully meets a certain list of criteria, standards and requirements. However, the Blue Flag program is not limited to issuing environmental labels, it also includes educational environmental activities, information for the public, decision makers and tour operators. "

"The United Arab Emirates have a beautiful coastline stretching over more than a thousand kilometers. The Blue Flag program is designed to preserve it and protect it from pollution. For this, a reliable public administration platform will be created in the form of certification and coastal conditions will be improved," said Razan Khalifa Al-Mubarak, CEO of EWS.

Owners of beaches and marinas who wish to obtain program certificates will need to admit representatives of national, regional and international commissions for routine and sudden inspections, which will be organized by the FEE non-governmental organization from Denmark.
